In the context of filtration, the beta rating is a conditional ratio requirement on a filtering system that compares the number of particles of a certain size in the unfiltered and filtered fluid. A beta rating of 1000 at 5 microns means that there is one particle of 5 micron or greater size in the filtered fluid for every 1000 particles of 5 micron or greater size in the unfiltered fluid.
