- A soil containing sufficient exchangeable sodium to interfere with the growth of most crop plants and also containing appreciable quantities of soluble salts.
- A soil in which the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) is greater than 15% and the conductivity of the saturation extract (EC) is greater than 4 mmhos/cm.
