Gibbsite [AI(OH)3] is the most common soil oxide of aluminum. It forms in weathered soils, primarily in the temperate and especially in tropical regions. Gibbsite is relatively stable once formed and contributes to soil aggregate stability. Gibbsite strongly adsorbs anions and its anion exchange capacity increases with decreasing pH.
